Both the areca and cycas fronds are polyblend plastic--a specially-blended synthetic foliage that will withstand outdoor weather for years on end. Regular plastic fronds deteriorate rapidly outdoors; steel fronds (available from some sources) look like steel and are very expensive.

My trunks are pressure-treated pine, which has been hand-carved and hand-stained to provide a permanent natural-palm appearance. Most utility companies in the USA use pressure-treated pine for telephone and power poles. It is virtually weatherproof! Other trunks on the market are made of steel, fiberglass, or preserved natural palms. Steel trunks and fiberglass trunks are expensive and not realistic; preserved natural palm trunks are expensive and will rot outdoors. My hand-carved, hand-stained, pressure-treated pine trunks provide a realistic, durable trunk at a very low cost.

Cost-Effective!
Steel trunks, which look like steel, are very expensive. Fiberglass trunks, which have a synthetic look up close, are also very expensive. Preserved natural trunks look great, but are expensive and will rot outdoors. My pressure-treated pine trunks are real trees, so they look like real trees. They are inexpensive and will last for years on end with no maintenance.

Most outdoor fronds on the market are either steel or steel-reinforced, polyblend plastic. Regular plastic fronds are not suitable for outdoor use. They will fade and turn brittle within a few months. Steel fronds are expensive and have a metallic look. Polyblend plastic costs less than steel, looks very natural, and will last for many years outdoors with no detectable deterioration.

Realistic!
As you can see by the photos, my trees are very attractive, and they look even better when you actually see them. Beauty, realistic appearance, durability, and low cost--these are the advantages of North River Palms!
